Founded in 1925, Westlake Hospital became a part of Resurrection Health Care in 1998. The hospital began as Proviso Hospital by the for-profit Proviso Hospital Association that identified a need for a hospital in Proviso Township. The new 80-bed hospital was dedicated May 12, 1927, as Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois. In 1934, it was commissioned as the 47th Surgical Hospital of the United States Army. The Proviso Hospital Association was renamed the Westlake Hospital Association in 1939 and was then incorporated as a non-profit community hospital. The late 1950s post-war growth led to a three-phase hospital expansion project through 1970. In 1980, the Westlake Health Services Foundation was organized to generate funds for the hospital and it continues to be a major contributor to the efforts of the facility. In 1990, Synergon Health System, a holding company, was formed to include Westlake Hospital and a nursing home among other facilities. Three years later the company joined another health system until it became a part of Resurrection Health Care in 1998.
Resurrection Health Care is a community-based hospital, not-for-profit organization, living out its sacred mission and core values-faithful to the spirit of its Sponsors and motivated by a reverence for life and respect for those it serves.
